30 years after Chief Engineer Howard Manning developed and patented these multi-position, tongue and groove, slip-joint style pliers in 1933, the company for whom he worked, Champion-DeArment, was renamed "Channellock" because the risk of the words "channel lock" becoming synonymous with the product was so great.
